Free 5366 File Folder Label Template

Labels for file folder tabs, read edge-on in a drawer. Avery sells the same layout as 8366, so this template prints on both. Type or upload your list, then download a PDF that prints in the right place.

How to print 5366 labels

  1. Choose Letter (8.5 × 11 in) paper and print at 100% / "Actual size". "Fit to page" shrinks the page and moves every label.
  2. Use the manual or bypass tray if your printer has one, and load one sheet at a time.
  3. Check the pack says your printer type: laser labels in a laser printer, inkjet labels in an inkjet.
  4. Print a test on plain paper first and hold it over a label sheet against a window.
  5. If everything is shifted the same way, use the printer alignment adjustment to correct it.

Still slightly off? Use the printer alignment test to correct it once for your printer.

5366 template questions

Is 8366 the same as 5366?

For printing, yes. Avery lists 8366 under the same template as 5366: 30 labels of 2/3" × 3-7/16" in the same positions, and both are sold for laser and inkjet printers, so this template and its PDF print on either. The same layout is also sold as 8593, 5566, 45366, 48266, 48366, 75366, 5029, 6505 and 8066. 5066, 5766, 5866, 6466, 6500 are not on Avery's list for 5366: Avery gives them a different template, and measuring it shows the labels in the same positions as on 5366. Check that the pack says 30 labels of 2/3" × 3-7/16".

How much fits on a 5366 label?

Two lines at the default 12 pt, about 40 characters each, so a client name over a reference such as “Client 0042 · Tax returns” prints at full size. A third line is set at 10.5 pt and a fourth at 7.5 pt, and up to five short lines fit at 6 pt, the smallest size. One clear line reads best from a drawer: with Size set to "Largest that fits", a short word can be as large as 31.5 pt.

Can I number 5366 folder labels?

Yes. Choose "The same text on every label", type Client {#} and set "Number of labels": Client 1 to Client 30 on the first sheet, 31 to 60 on the next. For a list of folder names, click "Add a number" and each one gets its own number. "Number from" and "Number style" (001, 002) set where it starts and how it looks.

Which part of a 5366 label shows on the folder tab?

The whole label wraps over the tab, so text near the very edge can end up on the back. Keep names short and centered, and turn on "Print label outlines" for a plain-paper test print before you use a real sheet.

Do I need an account, and is there a limit on how many labels?

No account is required. For spreadsheet lists, there is no fixed limit on the number of rows. Very large lists may take longer depending on your device. The Number of labels and copies controls support up to 10,000 labels.
