How to print 5163 labels
- Choose Letter (8.5 × 11 in) paper and print at 100% / "Actual size". "Fit to page" shrinks the page and moves every label.
- Use the manual or bypass tray if your printer has one, and load one sheet at a time.
- Check the pack says your printer type: laser labels in a laser printer, inkjet labels in an inkjet.
- Print a test on plain paper first and hold it over a label sheet against a window.
- If everything is shifted the same way, use the printer alignment adjustment to correct it.
- Printing on 8163 inkjet sheets? Let the ink dry for a minute before you stack the sheet or peel the labels.
Still slightly off? Use the printer alignment test to correct it once for your printer.
If something prints wrong
| What you see | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Every label is shifted the same way | Your printer pulls the sheet in a few millimetres off. This is normal and varies by printer and tray. | Print the alignment test and type the two numbers it shows. The correction is saved for every PDF. |
| The top row is fine but lower rows drift | The page was scaled, usually by "Fit to page" or by printing a Letter page on A4 paper. | Print again at 100% / "Actual size" with the paper size set to Letter. No correction can undo scaling. |
| Text runs off the edge of a label | A line is longer than the label is wide even at the smallest size the tool will use. | Shorten that line, or put the apartment number on its own line. Labels that were cut short are highlighted in the preview. |
| The first labels on the sheet come out blank | "Start at label" is set past 1, which is what you want on a part-used sheet but not on a fresh one. | Set "Start at label" back to 1 for a full sheet. |
| Some rows from the spreadsheet are missing | Those rows are hidden in Excel, or hidden by a filter, and are skipped by default. | Tick "Include hidden rows", or clear the filter in Excel and save the file again. |
| Some names print as question marks | Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hebrew, Thai and Indic scripts cannot be typeset here yet. | Latin, Greek and Cyrillic print as written. For the others, write the name in Latin letters for now. |
| The printer jams or the labels peel off inside | The sheet is the wrong type for the printer, or it has already been through once. | Use laser sheets in a laser printer and inkjet sheets in an inkjet, feed one sheet at a time, and never reuse a part-printed sheet. |

5163 template questions
Is 8163 the same as 5163?
It is the same sheet for a different printer. 8163 is made for inkjet printers and 5163 for laser printers; both hold ten 2" × 4" labels in the same positions, so the PDF from this page prints on either. Match the pack to your printer, though: laser labels do not absorb inkjet ink, which can smear, and inkjet labels are not built for a laser printer's heat. You will also find this layout as 18163, 5263 and 5523.
How much fits on a 2" × 4" shipping label?
Up to seven lines at the default 16 pt, about 34 characters across. A name, a company, two street lines, the city line and an order or phone number all print at full size; more than that is set smaller automatically.
Can I print postage or a tracking barcode on 5163 labels?
No. The labels are text only, which suits delivery and return addresses, box contents and order numbers. For paid postage or a carrier tracking barcode, print the label your carrier or marketplace gives you instead.
