Labelling a whole drawer at once
Filing is the case where a spreadsheet beats typing. If you already have a list of clients, case numbers, months or departments in Excel, upload it and every folder label is printed in order, 30 to a sheet.
Keep names short. A file folder label is read edge-on in a drawer, so one clear line beats three cramped ones. Centering the text usually looks better on a tab than left alignment.
Before you print a real sheet
The label wraps over the folder tab, so a few millimetres matter more here than on an envelope. Turn on "Print label outlines", print once on plain paper, and hold it against a blank sheet to check the position.

Which way round does the label go on the folder?
The label folds over the top of the tab, so the text sits on the front. Centre the text vertically and horizontally and keep it away from the very edge, which ends up on the back.
Can I number the folders automatically?
Not as a counter, but a spreadsheet column of numbers does the job: put 1 to 200 in a column, upload it, and each label gets the next number.
Do these fit Smead or other brands of folder?
The template matches the 2/3" × 3-7/16" sheet size, which is the standard for filing labels. Check the size on your pack rather than the brand.
