About List to Labels
A free tool for putting a list of addresses onto a sheet of labels, without a sign-up, a row limit, or your list being uploaded anywhere.
Why it exists
Printing labels from a spreadsheet is a solved problem that is still annoying. Word's mail merge takes four steps and fails in ways that are hard to diagnose. The online alternatives want an account before they will show you a preview, cap the free tier at a few dozen rows, or ask you to upload a file full of customers' home addresses to a server you know nothing about.
This site does the one job: paste or upload a list, see the sheet, download a PDF that prints in the right place.
Who makes it
List to Labels is built and maintained by Vikrant Thakur, a software developer. It is a small independent site, not a company and not connected to any label manufacturer.
Avery® is a registered trademark of Avery Products Corporation. This site is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Avery. Their product numbers are used here only to identify which physical sheet a template fits, which is what those numbers are for.
Where the measurements come from
Every layout is a set of numbers: label size, how many across and down, the margin from the edge of the sheet, and the distance from one label to the next. Published sources disagree with each other more often than you would expect, sometimes by 1/32 of an inch — enough to see on a printed sheet.
So the numbers here are checked against physical sheets and real print tests rather than copied from one source. Each template page publishes the full geometry it uses, in inches and millimetres, so you can check it against your own sheet before trusting it with a box of labels.
If a template does not match a sheet you are holding, that is a bug worth reporting. Measurements are welcome.
How it is paid for
The plan is advertising, once the site has enough visitors to be worth an advertiser's time. That is the trade: the tool stays free and open to everyone, and ads cover the hosting.
What will not happen: your mailing list is not a product. It is never uploaded, never stored and never shared, because it never leaves your browser in the first place. There is no account system, so there is nothing to sell.
What it deliberately does not do
- No accounts. Nothing to sign up for and no saved lists, which is also why there is nothing to leak.
- No uploads. Your file is read in the browser. Take the network away after the page loads and it still works.
- No paid tier hiding the useful part. Spreadsheet import is the point of the site, not an upsell.
- No carrier postage or barcodes. Those have to come from the carrier that issued the tracking number.
