Which size do I need?
Business cards come in two standards and they are not interchangeable. The number on your pack of card stock decides which one you have.
- 2" × 3.5" (Avery 5371, 8371 and friends): the North American card, ten to a US Letter sheet.
- 85 × 54 mm (Avery C32011): the European and ISO card, ten to an A4 sheet. Slightly narrower and slightly taller.
- On 5371 the cards touch edge to edge; C32011 has a 10 mm gap between its two columns and touching rows. Either way there is little spare paper around a card, so alignment matters more here than on address labels.
A different card on every one
Printing a sheet of identical cards is the obvious use, and "The same text on every card" does it in one step. The less obvious one is a sheet where every card is different: upload a spreadsheet of names and roles and each card takes one row.
That is worth knowing if you run a small team, a market stall with several sellers, or a club that needs a card per member. It is the same import that fills address labels, so a column of names and a column of titles is all it needs.
Printing cards without a guillotine
Because the cards butt against each other, a printer that shifts the page by 2 mm trims 2 mm off one edge of every card and leaves a white strip on the other. It is much more visible on a card than on a label.
So run the alignment test first if you have not already, and print one sheet on plain paper and hold it against the card stock before committing a pack. Turning on "Print label outlines" shows exactly where the perforations should fall.

Can I add a logo or a background colour?
Not yet — cards are text only, with a bold first line and centering. For a designed card, download the blank Word template and lay it out there; the table cells are already positioned on the card edges.
What card stock do I need?
Perforated business card stock in the size your template matches, and the right type for your printer: laser stock in a laser printer, inkjet stock in an inkjet. Plain paper works for the test print but not for the cards themselves.
Why do my cards have a white strip down one edge?
The page printed slightly out of position. On butt-cut sheets there is no gap to absorb it, so the error shows as a white strip on one side and a trimmed edge on the other. Run the alignment test once and it is corrected for good.
Is 2" × 3.5" the same as 85 × 54 mm?
No. 2" × 3.5" is 50.8 × 88.9 mm — wider and shorter than the European card. A card designed for one does not fit the other, and the sheets have different layouts, so use the template that matches your stock.
