Which address label size do I need?
Three sizes cover almost every address label sold for US Letter sheets. The number printed on your pack decides it, but if you are buying rather than using up a pack, the choice comes down to how much text each label has to hold.
- 30 per sheet (1" × 2-5/8", Avery 5160): the standard mailing label. Four short lines fit comfortably. Cheapest per label.
- 20 per sheet (1" × 4", Avery 5161): the same height but wider, so long street names and company names stay on one line.
- 14 per sheet (1-1/3" × 4", Avery 5162): the most room. Good for five-line international addresses or larger text.
Printing a mailing list
If your addresses are already in Excel, Google Sheets or a contacts export, upload the file instead of retyping it. The columns are matched to name, street, city, state and ZIP automatically, and you can change what goes on each line.
Duplicates are found before printing, which matters on a mailing list that has been merged from several sources: a duplicate costs you a label, a stamp and, for a wedding, an awkward second invitation.
Free address label templates — questions
Can I use a 5160 template for 8160 labels?
Yes. 5160, 8160, 5260, 5960 and several other numbers are the same 30-per-sheet layout; the number changes with the pack size and printer type, not the geometry.
How do I print on a sheet I have already used part of?
Set "Start at label" to the first empty position, counting left to right and then down. The used labels are left blank so nothing is printed onto a gap.
Can I print a different return address on each label?
Yes. Every label comes from one row of your list, so each can be different. To repeat one address on the whole sheet, switch to "The same text on every label".
