Your label data

When you type a list, paste cells, or upload a spreadsheet, that data is handled entirely by JavaScript running on your own computer. The file is read in the browser, the preview is drawn in the browser, and the PDF, Word and CSV files you download are built in the browser.

There is no upload, so List to Labels never receives your list, cannot store it, cannot read it and cannot share it. You can verify this: load the page, disconnect from the internet, then upload a file and download the finished PDF. It works offline because it never needed the network.

Nothing you enter is kept after you close or reload the page.

What is stored in your browser

Your answer to the analytics question is written to your browser's local storage, so you are asked once rather than on every page. It holds one word, "granted" or "denied", and is not a cookie. Each page reads it to decide whether to load Google Analytics.

If you save a printer alignment correction, it is written to your browser's local storage so your next download is adjusted for your printer. It holds two numbers: a horizontal and a vertical offset. It is not a cookie, it is not sent anywhere, and it stays on that one browser.

If you accept analytics, Google Analytics also sets the two cookies described under Analytics.

Clearing your browser's site data for this site removes all of these, and you will be asked about analytics again.

Server logs

The site is static and is served by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes the technical information your browser sends with each request — IP address, the page requested, the time, the browser's user-agent string — to deliver pages and to protect against attacks and abuse. List to Labels does not use those logs to build a profile of you, and does not link them to anything you type into the tools.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4, a measurement service from Google, to learn which pages and tools are used, how people find the site and where it falls short, so it can be improved. It is used for measurement only, not for advertising: the site tells Google that advertising storage, the use of data for ads and ad personalisation are all denied, and that never changes.

Only with your permission

The first time you visit, a small notice asks whether Google Analytics may use cookies. Until you accept, Google's analytics script is not loaded at all: nothing is sent to Google Analytics, and no analytics cookies are set or read. If you decline, it is never loaded.

If you accept

Google's analytics script is loaded from Google, with analytics storage granted through Google's Consent Mode. It sets two first-party cookies on this site and sends Google details of your visits: the pages you view and their titles, the site you came from, how long you stay, interactions such as scrolling and clicks on links to other sites, your browser, device type, screen size and language, and an approximate location (country and city) that Google works out from your IP address. Google says Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses.

• _ga: a random ID that tells one visitor from another. Kept for up to 2 years.
• _ga_SDP955LV50: keeps track of your current visit. Kept for up to 2 years.

What Google never receives

The lists you type, paste or upload, and the files you download. They are handled in your browser as described above, and they are not part of what Google Analytics collects.

Where the data goes

Google may process analytics data in the United States and other countries. Detailed visit data is deleted after the retention period set in this site's Google Analytics account, which is at most 14 months. Google explains how it uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Changing your mind

You can change your answer at any time, here or by clearing this site's data in your browser. If you withdraw it, the Google Analytics cookies are deleted and no new ones are set. Declining makes no difference to the tools. You can also block Google Analytics on every site with Google's opt-out browser add-on.

Cloudflare Web Analytics

This site also uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to see which pages are useful. It sets no cookies, does not use local storage, and does not follow you across other sites, so it runs whether or not you accept Google Analytics. It reports totals such as page views, referring sites, countries and browsers, not individuals. Nothing you type or upload into the tools is sent to it. See Cloudflare Web Analytics.

Advertising and cookies

There are no ads on this site yet and it sets no advertising cookies. The only cookies it uses are the two Google Analytics cookies described above, and only if you accept them.

The plan is to show ads eventually, so the tools can stay free with no account and no limits. Before that happens this page will be updated to name the ad vendors and the cookies they use, and visitors in the UK and EEA will be asked for consent first. Whatever happens on that front, ad code has no access to the list you are working on — that data never leaves your browser.

Email

If you write to hello@listtolabels.com, your message and address are kept in that mailbox so the conversation can be answered and referred back to. They are not added to a mailing list and not passed to anyone else. Ask and the thread will be deleted.

Children

This is a general-audience printing tool and is not directed at children under 13. No account is required and, apart from the analytics described above, no personal information is knowingly collected from anyone.

Your rights

Data protection law, including the GDPR and the CCPA, gives you rights to see, correct and delete personal data a site holds about you. In practice there is very little to exercise them against here: there are no accounts and no stored lists, and your label data is never received in the first place. Google Analytics data, if you accepted it, is tied to the random ID in the _ga cookie, not to your name or email address.

Your personal data is never sold or shared for cross-context behavioural advertising. For anything else — including a question about what a host, Google Analytics or an ad vendor holds — email hello@listtolabels.com and it will be answered.

Changes

When this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes, such as ads or analytics being switched on, will be described here rather than quietly folded in.
